Indian summer

... and little flying spiders

I wonder if Indian summer the world over is accompanied by active flights of young spiders on magic carpets woven from their webs.

While we humans build wings from metal, carbon fiber, and fabric, they do it from webs. We helped our wingless brothers as much as we could: they clung to the Dragonfly’s struts, and we carried them away, high and far.

It turns out spiders are very good travelers on their own: they catch the wind, retract their legs and fly, fly… They can even control the flight by opening or retracting their legs, as well as climbing back and forth along the length of their strand of web string to move their center of gravity.

Then, having become adults and respectable, sometimes they reminisce: “And then I was flying, and then I was high, and then I was low, and then I was high again !…”
