Why helicopter?

Why is there a helicopter in these photos of Andrey?

Because it was the first (and, so far, only) aircraft that he has managed to take up into the air since we arrived in France a month and a half ago.

Andrey, by virtue of his education, knows quite well how a helicopter flies. That is why he has never wanted to fly one: he used to say that only aliens could invent something so overly complicated, and he has no trust in it.

But here he flew it, aaaaaand …. Now we both want to save up for helicopter training. I flew small helicopters before as a passenger and cherished this dream to be able to fly it for a long time. And now Andrey is hooked, too.

Saving up enough, however, will take a loooooong time: helicopter training is extremely expensive. And we also are desperate to fly aerobatics airplanes here (it’s so good that France is such an aviation-oriented country!). And, of course, we need a couple of hang gliders — how can you live near the Dune De Pyla, and not buy at least a Malibu for starters!

We need to set our sights a lot lower, of course, and first of all urgently rent a permanent accommodation here (it’s so difficult it is to find one here!), then buy bicycles to go to work (as everyone here does), and I also need to find a job of my own. Yes, we have a lot of challenges and dreams ahead of us. But — isn’t it good to daydream sometimes? Dreams always lead somewhere.

P.S. While sorting through our aviation library, I found a magazine article from 1998 where Andrey describes how to fly a helicopter in MSFS. Actually, thanks to that virtual experience he had many years ago, now he managed to fly this baby helicopter very well from the very first flight — well, at least according to his instructor!
