In the piggy bank of cool flying places, one should add the Usman (Sharshki) airfield, located 500 km south of Moscow.

В копилочку клёвых аэродромов — 500 км к югу от Москвы, в Липецкой области, но ближе к Воронежу — аэродром Усмань (Шаршки).

A lot of my pilot friends dream of their ideal airfield. There, at Usman, it is clearly someone else’s dream being transformed into life.

Многие знакомые пилоты мечтают о своём идеальном аэродроме. И вот здесь тоже явно чьи-то мечты, превращаемые в жизнь.

The atmosphere of the place reminds me of my beloved Florida’s Wilotree Park (formerly Quest). It is also a grass airfield populated by both motorized and non-motorized aircraft, flight students, instructors, and aerotowing operations. It has wonderful sunsets, small and stylish houses for the permanent staff and guests (priority for the pilots!), a cafe/kitchen/dining room and a briefing room, often filled with people talking about flying. It exudes a kind of proper atmosphere: hospitable, warm, where you somehow immediately feel like part of the family.

Атмосферой аэродром напомнил мой горячо любимый флоридский Квест (теперь уже Вилотри). Тоже грунтовая полоса, куча моторной и безмоторной техники, учлёты, инструкторы, аэробуксировки, все разговоры о полётах, чудесные закаты, небольшие и стильные домики для постоянного состава и гостей (приоритет пилотам!), кафе/кухня/столовая и зал для брифинга — то, что в Квесте называется клаб-хаусом. И какая-то правильная атмосфера, гостеприимная, тёплая, где сразу как-то становишься своим.

I also liked the broadcast of radio communications at all points of the airfield — very convenient! In general, the organization of flights is very good there. I would like to direct everyone who wants to learn to fly a glider or an airplane to Usman. It’s a pity, hang gliding operations are rather difficult to combine in one place with airplanes flying actively. Otherwise, hang gliding should be there too.

Ещё мне в Усмани понравилась трансляция радиопереговоров во всех точках аэродрома — очень удобно! И вообще организация полётов очень хорошая. Хочется отправлять сюда всех, кто мечтает научиться летать на планере или самолёте. Жаль, дельтапланерные полеты сложно сочетать в одном месте с самолётными. А то бы и их сюда тоже!
