Today I want to write about Stories. And about the Sheregesh ski resort.

Хочу написать про сторис. И про Шерегеш — горнолыжный курорт в Сибири!

Recently I found out that, even among my progressive IT friends, there are those who are not familiar with Stories on Facebook and/or Instagram and therefore don’t view them and don’t use their advantages. I’m going to tell you a little bit about them, and maybe it will come in handy for you.

Недавно узнала, что даже среди моих прогрессивных в айтишном плане друзей есть те, кто не знает, что такое сторис в соцсетях и поэтому не смотрит их и не пользуется их преимуществами. Расскажу, вдруг пригодится кому!

In short, Stories are the way to share all the interesting moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. Stories only live for 24 hours, and then vanish forever. Which is good, because they show life in the moment, something that evokes emotions right now, and what you want to share right now, without careful word selection or always seeking the best quality photos. They are more casual and more full of life. Also, all your Stories are grouped under one icon and do not litter the feed for those who are not interested in watching that much of you.

Если кратко, то это способ обмениваться микрорепортажами об интересных моментах жизни, не захламляя основную ленту. Сторис живут всего 24 часа, а потом исчезают. И хорошо, ведь они показывают жизнь в моменте: что-то, что вызывает эмоции прямо сейчас, и чем хочется поделиться прямо сейчас, а не выверять текст для поста и не выбирать фото получше. А потом все сторис группируются под одной иконкой и никак не мусорят ленту тем, кому не интересно их смотреть.

For example, at the moment Andrey and I (as well as Yulia Kucherenko’s family) are at the Sheregesh ski resort in Siberia. Yes, we got tired of waiting for the flyable weather in Moscow and temporarily relocated to a snowy paradise. Here, several times a day, I post photos and short video reports about how extraordinary our everyday life is for us:

Например, сейчас мы с Андреем (а также Юлей, Колей и Арьей Сушковыми/Кучеренками) в Шерегеше (даа, мы устали ждать лётную погоду в Москве и временно передислоцировались в снежный рай). И я часто, несколько раз в день, выкладываю фото и короткие видеорепортажики о том, как экстраординарно (для нас) проходят наши будни:

• how we greet sunrises on the mountain and how fantastic both the light and look of the groomed slope appear in the morning;

• как мы встречаем рассветы на горе и какой фантастический там и свет, и вельветовый склон по утрам;

• how we “swim” in snowdrifts, which rise significantly over our heads, and we do not freeze at all while doing that;

• как мы купаемся в сугробах, которые существенно выше нас, и совсем не мерзнем;

• how we tried freeriding for the first time and fell in love with it;

• как впервые попробовали фрирайд и влюбились;

• how the four-hour difference with Moscow time zone makes it possible to freeride in the morning and have had enough fun by the beginning of the work day;

• как четырехчасовая разница с Москвой даёт возможность укататься с утра еще до начала рабочего дня;

• how Yulia paints wonderful oil paintings with views of the morning Sheregesh forest;

• как Юльчик пишет чудесные картины маслом с видами на утренний шерегешский лес;

• how much snow there is and how often there is a powder (because of which it is sometimes impossible to drive to the cable cars by car, so one has to go ski touring!).

• как много здесь снега и как часто здесь пухляк (из-а которого иногда невозможно проехать на машине до подъемников и приходится идти скитуром).

There is no time to write posts about all this yet, and as we are not real skiers, neither do we have any expertise to share. But, by using Stories, we can always share the things that delight us.

Писать посты про всё это пока некогда, да и не лыжники мы, экспертизы нет. А вот делиться восторгами — это всегда пожалуйста.

Stories are vertical photos or up to a 15 second video, with captions and comments usually written on top of it. Sometimes Stories are interactive: they may have questions or offer polls, or it can be a live broadcast.

В сторис выкладывают фото в моменте или короткие видеоролики, обычно с небольшими историями. Иногда сторис интерактивные — с вопросами или опросами. Ещё можно запустить прямую трансляцию.

Instead of being displayed in the feed, Stories displayed at the top of an active user’s app and are tapped to scroll through to view. A single Story can contain numerous individual photos and videos strung together in order of when the user posted them.

Располагаются все сторис (ваши и ваших друзей) не в обычной ленте, которую вы скролите вертикально вниз, а сверху страницы и горизонтально. Сначала идут те авторы, которых вы чаще читаете (или которых чаще читают другие).

Each slide is shown for five seconds and then automatically switches the next slide, or you can tap your phone’s right part of the screen to cut to the next photo or video (or left part of the screen to go to a previous one).

Нажимаете на любой сторис — и начинается воспроизведение. Каждая сторис показывается пять секунд и потом самостоятельно переключается на следующую, а когда закончатся сторис выбранного автора, начнут отображаться сторис следующего.

If you want to pause the viewing and explore the Story for a longer time, you need to hold your finger on any part of the screen (on your phone) or click on the pause icon on top (on your computer). Swiping left and right while viewing a Story will allow you to shuffle between Stories from different users.

Если хочется приостановить просмотр, чтобы рассмотреть сторис подольше или успеть прочитать весь текст, надо нажать пальцем в любую часть экрана и держать (на телефоне) или нажать на значок паузы сверху (на компе). Если хочется перейти к следующей сторис на телефоне — короткое нажатие пальцем на правую часть экрана, а к предыдущей сторис — короткое нажатие на левую часть экрана (на компе для этого есть стрелочки). Чтобы перейти сразу к следующему автору — надо “смахнуть” экран справа налево.

By the way, any comments and reactions to the Story you make will be visible only to its author and no one else.

Кстати, любые ваши комментарии и реакции на сторис будут видны только ее автору и больше никому.

Aside from the top of the home screen, you can also see your friend’s Story on their page by tapping on their profile icon (their icon will be surrounded by a colored circle if they have a current Story).

А еще сторис вашего друга можно посмотреть на его странице, ткнув на иконку профиля (иконка в таком случае всегда обведена цветным кружком).

Personally, I post my Stories on Instagram, it’s just more convenient for me there. But Instagram is connected with Facebook and automatically transmits them there, too. This way my Stories on FB usually lose interactivity and the quality deteriorates a little, though.

Я выкладываю сторис в инстаграм, мне там удобнее. Но инстаграм связан с фейсбуком и умеет автоматически транслировать их и сюда. Правда, при этом обычно теряется интерактивность и немного портится качество, мне кажется.

Stories disappear after 24 hours, but if the author wants, they can save some especially valuable ones in the Highlights section. For instance, I keep our hang gliding trips and some other thematic ones, such as “Yak-52 flying”, in the Highlights section of Instagram.

Сторис пропадают через 24 часа, но если автор хочет, он может сохранить какие-то особо ценные сторис в разделе “Актуальное” (или Highlights на англ.) Я в “Актуальном” в инстаграме храню выезды на дельтапланерные соревнования или еще какие-то тематические сторис, например “Як-52”.

В общем, про Шерегеш я еще обязательно напишу пост, но пока что — добро пожаловать в сторис!
